Grant Writing Curriculum

Workshop Overview
The DataNor Research Institute Grant Writing Workshops are designed for organizations who receive or plans to receive government grants and/or interested in responding to federal funding announcements. The workshop is a training ground to assist civic/community organizations, faith-based organizations, businesses, corporations, and non-profit organizations with the “Art” of successful grant writing and proposal development. Beginning and experienced grant writers and managers are encouraged to attend.

The workshop presents practical knowledge on the art and science of grant writing. The training offers participants’ a comprehensive step-by-step hand on experience on: 1) “How to” identify problem areas within the organization and/or agencies which funds are being requested; 2) “How to” find grants for the specific problem area identified; 3) “How to” write a successful grant that’s funded; 4) “How to” develop a custom-made response for Request for Proposals (RFPs); 5) “How to” manage grant dollars (funds) received; and, 6) “How to prepare and submit financial reports in a timely manner.
The curriculum is a comprehensive skills-based approach from experience to train participants “How to” apply the essential points of grant development and writing the proposal that includes, but not limited to:

  • Introduction and Background of Project

  • Setting goals, objectives, and outcomes

  • Organization/Management Plan
  • Letters of Support, Networking
  • Preparation and justification of Budget
  • Identifying potential funding sources
  • Finding public funds, private funds,
  • Reviewing Request for Proposals (RFP)
  • Procedures for grant application submission
  • The Grant Review process
  • Writing the Cover Letter/Executive Summary
